Santiago
So yeah! Im still here!
My bike is in the shop- gonna go get it tomorrow but it may be to late to leave then...
Im starting to feel like a local- I know my way round the city now (even short cuts an stuff)! But it is nice (and a bit worrying) I just got a free cup of tea in a cafe "cos they like me" which is great cos i like that cafe! Hmmm...
But anyway! Even though i want to leave as soon as possible, I have figured out the good areas to go have breakfast, the good areas for lunch and the good areas of the city to have an evening meal (and yes my money is draining away) But ive had a very tasty meal already an i know where im gonna go eat tonight!
And im looking forward to it!
As always my plans are not made of stone but ive been thinking... I think (this is changable) that were gonna head south east to madrid (to buy some time to finally decide what to do now) and from there probably continue south east to valencia! An from there north, along the coast, to barcelona so bethan can do a spanish course for a couple of weeks (I wanna learn more as well) an we can maybe earn some money there til christmas!
Anyway. Today i was sitting at a table talking to some more aussies that we met further back and have now cought up with us. An a spanish guy came up and asked us all about our motivation for doing the camino. Turns out he was one of the originals that started painting the yellow arrows along the way to re-vitalise the camino. I couldn let this opportunity pass so i jumped on him! I explained that i thought the camino was absolutly fantastic an that i wanted to expand it. Is there a way i could start it in St Davids? From the patron saint of wales to the partron saint of spain! A pilgrimage between places of ancient culture and spirtuality (This is a very long term plan- dont worry- I know i wouldn be able to do such a thing in any sort of hurry) Ideally for this i should start at the tor in glastonbury
but i figure santiago has many different ways leading there so why not start from wales an fill in the other routes later! Anyway....
Yeah the guy seemed to get very exited at my idea of starting in wales- he did explain that there were routes leading from england but understood that i would rather start from my home country (he was from the basque region) And hey! If plan to start in St Davids i may as well just start from my front door! And the first thing i will do- Drop my bag an paint a BIG yellow arrow pointing up the street!!!
So yeah we swapped e-mail addresses and ive already e-mailed him my plans (in spanish-really hd to think about that one! With a translation in english just incase i got something wrong)
Anyway! Going crazy stuck in city and i dont know if im gonna be able to leave anytime soon s!!! Anyway til later probably! ![]()
